SOKO works with MADE.

SOKO has recently teamed up with MADE, to produce kitenge and khanga pouches to put their jewellery in. This is fantastic opportunity for us as it means we can use up our fabric off cuts and give our trainee tailors more experience.

MADE produce beautiful pieces of jewellery that are hand crafted in their workshop in Nairobi, with many components sourced in East Africa. MADE was set up in 2005 and they train local artisans in new skills, whilst providing a fair wage. MADE believe in trade not aid and say that the brand is “made – by the people for the people”. MADE also has a charity that helps various projects across Kenya, in particular Bidii School in Kibera Slums, Nairobi.

MADE has collaborated with people such as Laura Bailey, Peaches Geldof, Pippa Small, Alexa Chung to produce some beautiful collections.

Some of the places you can buy MADE’s jewellery include Topshop, Whistles, Oxfam, ASOS and John Lewis.

The new Festival collection, being launched in August, will be available from John Lewis -with every purchase from John Lewis or the online store you will get one of SOKO’s tailor made pouches.
