SOKO Community Trust was set up in 2013. The aim of the Trust is to provide people with the practical skills needed to see sustainable improvements in their lives and lift themselves out of poverty.
The Trust runs multiple projects:
The Stitching Academy, a sewing training school that provides 40 people per year with a 3 month training course in the use of industrial sewing machinery.
The curriculum was designed in-house and provides students with the technical skills required to gain employment in the garment manufacturing industry.
The Stitching Academy Hub, a shared industrial sewing machine workspace for graduates from the Hub. This workspace gives graduates the opportunity to practice the skills learnt during the course, start their own business and receive career development support and mentoring.
The Pipeline Roadshow, a training and support programme that travels to five villages around SOKO providing training in financial literacy, family health and planning, eye clinics and female empowerment. The train-ing courses reached 1,000 people in 2016.
