SOKO Kenya Founder Jo Maiden Speaks at Harvard Business School
We are thrilled to share that Jo Maiden, Founder and CEO of SOKO Kenya, had the incredible opportunity to speak at the renowned Harvard Business School Africa Business Conference (HBS ABC) this year. As the largest student-run African conference in the world, the event brought together leaders, experts, and visionaries to explore the theme: "Beyond Borders: A Myth or a Mandate for Africa's Progress."
Jo was honoured to join industry trailblazers Nisha Kanabar, Lisa Folawiyo, and Eniafe Momodu for the panel discussion, "Weaving the Future: Creating Africa’s Fashion Blueprint from Within," moderated by Judson Asiruwa. The conversation focused on the potential of Africa's fashion industry and how the continent can shape its future through innovative, sustainable practices.
Reflecting on her journey, Jo shared, “For the past 16 years, I’ve been building a factory that puts Kenya – and Africa – on the map as a manufacturing destination for high-quality clothing for international brands. But more than that, I’ve been working to prove that fashion can be a force for good – through paying living wages, minimizing environmental impact, and creating a more equitable industry.”
The day was filled with inspiring discussions and an overwhelming sense of optimism about Africa’s future. With over 1,000 passionate Harvard Business School MBA students in attendance, Jo left the stage feeling energized by the collective ambition and drive to elevate Africa’s industries.
The future of African fashion is brighter than ever, and SOKO Kenya is proud to be a part of it. We’re just getting started!
